SuPInterested in working as a Support Worker? |
Support Workers can help students to overcome particular difficulties experienced as a result of a disability when studying. This support is intended to go some way towards levelling the playing field for these students. It is important to understand that the needs of each student are very different. The Centre’s Personal Support Service supports students with a very wide range of disabilities including sensory loss, physical, health and mental health difficulties as well as those with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyspraxia.
The Centre oversees the deployment of a wide range of support workers undertaking a range of roles to work with students with disabilities in our partner Universities. Support Workers are recruited and trained by The Centre to ensure that they are fully aware of and competent to perform their work with a student.
The Centre works closely with The Randstad Employment Agency which deals with references, Criminal Record Checks and establishing eligibility to work and then accepts, upon The Centre’s recommendation, Support Workers onto its books as FlexWorkers.
The work of Support Workers is monitored and further future training and professional development opportunities, meetings and opportunities for networking are provided as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving quality.
Once the assistance of a Support Worker has been specified as necessary (in many cases this is done in The Assessment of Need) Centre staff will identify an appropriate Support Worker and the student’s details with details of the type of work to be undertaken and number of hours available will be passed on with an invitation for the Support Worker to make contact with the student to negotiate the best way of them working together.
The Centre then passes on the details of this match to the Randstad Employment Agency which then undertakes to deal with all pay related matters.
