Typical difficulties at University might include:-
- Attending to a lecture and notetaking at the
same time
- Making legible notes
- Researching/reading
- Time management / Organising
Appropriate Reasonable Adjustments might include:-
- Notes in advance of lectures
- Modifications to examination arrangements
- Permission to record lectures/seminars
Support/resources available via Access SUMMIT
might include:-
- Assessment of Needs undertaken by assessor
experienced in dyslexia
- Support package including:-
- Digital recorder to assist with notetaking;
- Personal Computer with mind-mapping software to assist
with planning and organisation and read back software to assist with
proof-reading;
- Scanner to assist with reading/researching;
- Study Skills Tutoring to cover topics such as
effective notetaking, researching, essay planning, organisational skills and time
management;
- Training to make sure you make best use of the
equipment you have;
- Ongoing Assistive Technology Support to make
sure your equipment continues to give you the support you need throughout your
course.
