What is Access SUMMIT?
Access SUMMIT aims to support disabled people to maximise their access to education, employment and leisure opportunities through the provision of high quality services and support including the provision of information and advice, staff development, assessments, personal support, training and ongoing assistive technology support.
What Does Access SUMMIT Do?
We offer a small portfolio of specialist services to clients with disabilities in the demanding area of education, especially further and higher education and employment concentrating upon:
Assessments - in relation to Assistive Technology resources and Personal Support;
Training - in relation to Assistive Technology resources;
Provision of notetakers, personal assistants, readers, library assistants and campus mobility assistants;
Provision of Support Tutors and Mentors;
Ongoing Technical Support - in relation to Assistive Technology resources.
Who uses Access SUMMIT?
Current disabled students and students with Specific Learning Difficulties (e.g. dyslexia) and their advocates;
disabled people and people with Specific Learning Difficulties (e.g. dyslexia) who are intending to enter Further or Higher Education;
Local Education Authority Awards and Grants Sections;
Further and Higher Education Institutions;
Employers and organisations with a responsibility to users.
With Access SUMMIT individuals can:
Identify their needs and specify the areas in which they will need resources and support;
Find out which assistive technology resources and strategies best meet the needs identified;
Get training in the use of assistive technology resources;
Obtain personal support in the form of a support tutor, notetaker, reader and personal assistant.
With Access SUMMIT organisations can:
Get information and guidance on issues relating to the needs of students and employees with a disability or an SpLD;
Get help with assessing the needs of their students and employees;
Develop the skills and knowledge of staff through a tailor made staff development session.
